Description
Just south of Rioja and inland from the cooling Ebro River, the heat-soaked little Campo de Borja region is home to robust, ripe wines.

Tasting Note
One of my favorite offerings from the Bodegas Borsao ... Made from 100% Garnacha aged in equal parts stainless steel and French oak, this is the Bodegas Borsao's interpretation of Chateauneuf du Pape. (But when's the last time you saw a bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape priced at $17 - about 30 years ago?) Deep notes of roasted herbs, sweet black cherries and raspberries, peppers and spice soar from the glass of this dark ruby/purple-tinged wine. Full-bodied, rich, ripe, silky textured, pure and long, this unbelievable value should drink well for 3-4 years. Score - 92. (Robert Parker Jr., erobertparker.com, Oct. 2012)

Vinedos y Bodega Arturo Garcia's 2007 Solar de Sael is 100% Mencia sourced from 80+ year old estate vineyards farmed with biodynamic principles. Opaque purple-colored, it displays an exotic perfume of menthol, balsamic, Asian spices, mineral, and black raspberry. Medium-bodied, rich, and full-flavored, it has a bit of underlying structure that should permit another 1-2 years of evolution. This impressive effort is also an outstanding value. Score - 90+. The more internationally styled 2007 Artigazo is composed of 40% Garnacha, 30% Syrah, and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in barrel for 18 months. It gives up enticing aromas of cedar, spice box, incense, blueberry, violets, and black cherry. Description
Super-popular these days for its modern-styled red wines, Priorat is situated some 100km west of Barcelona.

Tasting Note
The Planets de Prior Pons was formerly commercialized under the name 'Isaral.' The 2008 is a blend of 40% Carinena, 40% Garnacha, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 5% Syrah, sourced from 5- to 60-year-old vines and undergoes aging for 12 months in American and French oak, 40% and 60% respectively. It has a well-defined bouquet with subtle garrigue aromas, rendering this very Provencal in persona. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins on the entry that underpin layers of succulent, ripe, red berry fruit laced with white pepper and a pinch of rosemary. The finish is focused, long and sweet in the mouth without being over-bearing. This is a well-crafted Priorat for mid-term drinking. Drink 2014-2020. Score - 91.
