What We're Drinking Now

CLOS MARGUERITE SAUVIGNON BLANC 2010
VINTAGES 281014  $18.95
Marlborough, New Zealand

Single-site Awatere Valley fruit.  Aromas of capsicum, peach, citrus, melon and gooseberry leading to a remarkably smooth, minerally finish.  Raised entirely in tanks.  Have no fear, the varietal acid is still here.   I'm 92 on this wine.  Highly recommended.  -Andy

SOUTHBROOK TRIOMPHE CABERNET MERLOT 2002
VQA Ontario  $24.95

Approaching its 11th birthday, this smells like old Coonawarra Cabernet.  Nose suggests a hugely rich wine (bigger than what it is to be honest), with dried mint, black currants, cherries, blueberries and a hint of charred wood.  These notes persist on the palate all backed by super high-toned acid.  Still a little bit of greenage present.  I'm 91 points on this wine.  Might be one of the best Ontario red wines I've ever had.  Confirms my impression from a recent tasting at Southbrook, they make some serious stuff.  Slightly over-the-top acid prevents it from going even higher on the score.  -Rachel

CHÂTEAU FÉRET-LAMBERT 2009
AC Bordeaux Supérieur  $19 (Vintages Bordeaux Futures)

Slightly opaque colour. Field grass, hung meat and black fruits on the nose.  Spice box, dark cherry, black plums on the palate.  Holy tannins!  Needs to settle down, drink after 2013.  90 Points.  -Rachel
