What We're Drinking Now

FEBRUARY  8

 BRANCAIA TOSCANA TRE 2007
#10 WINE SPECTATOR 2009 TOP 100
Tuscany, Italy

A whiff of Northern Rhone when first opened.  This wine develops beautiful aromas of black raspberries and blackberries and wild flowers, supported by roasted vanilla bean, pencil lead on the palate.  The tannins are soft and a little chewy (a good thing in this wine).  Beautiful high toned acid brings this all together.  The varietal characteristics do not show through as much as you'd think.  Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.  I'm 92 on this wine.  Still has a couple years of bottle-age potential.  -Rachel
